Résumé

Kevin “Mac” McGovern

Captain, U.S.N. (Retired)

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Mac was raised by his mother and father along with his five siblings. His parents instilled the values of honesty, commitment, family, and personal responsibility in their children. Mac came to Central Florida when he was seventeen to join the Navy. Joining the military came naturally to him as his father was a WWII veteran who fought and was wounded in the Pacific Theater. His patriotism for America derives from his immigrant background as his family came from both Ireland and Germany to escape poverty and tyranny.

He has spent over 40 years serving his country in Naval Aviation. During his exemplary career as both an enlisted man and then as a Navy Officer, he operated across the globe as a citizen-sailor serving on both active duty and in the Navy reserve. During his years of duty to our Nation, Mac has served in both peacetime and wartime, from Asia to Afghanistan. In Afghanistan he served as a Senior Officer assigned to the International Security Assistance Force (NATO), under GEN Petraeus.

While in Washington, D.C. he oversaw the production of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, America’s latest generation of stealth fighter aircraft. He was responsible for the international production and delivery of the first fifty-nine jets to Eglin AFB, FL. He led the effort between the U.S. and our international partners, United Kingdom, Italy, Netherlands, Australia, Norway, Denmark, and Canada.

He has committed and sacrificed to serve his Nation and community for decades and has defended the Republic in every conflict and war during that time.

He is a 1981 graduate of Purdue University and holds a degree in Electrical Engineering. He earned his commission as a Navy Officer in Pensacola, FL at the Aviation Officer Candidate School (AOCS). He is a graduate of the Defense Acquisition University and holds the highest credential achievable in the U.S. Government as a Level III Program Manager. He also has the rare distinction of being designated as an Acquisition Professional and oversaw an annual budget of greater than $5 billion USD.

Mac holds an F.A.A. Commercial Pilot Certificate and is also qualified as an F.A.A. Certified Aviation Maintenance Technician. He loves to teach the next generation of aviation professionals and holds certifications to teach advanced and instrument flying.

He volunteers with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for those less fortunate and fights for veterans’ rights. Mac and his wife Maggie are now permanent, full-time residents of The Villages.
